1.The fastest way to get from Shanghai to Xi'an is to fly which takes 4h 46m and costs ¥700 - ¥1300.
Spring Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, and two other airlines fly from Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) to Xi An (XIY) hourly.

2. Shanghai to Xi'an train services, operated by China Railways G-Class, arrive at Xian North station.
The number of high speed trains operated daily from Shanghai to Xi'an is around 10; only one of them is D train and the rest are G trains. This D train is operated overnight with the duration of about 11 hours, and all the G trains are operated in daytime with the duration of about 6 - 7.5 hours. A single ride on a second class seat on G trains costs CNY 669.5, and a soft sleeper ticket of the D train costs CNY 1,040.

3.There is no direct train from Shanghai to Xi'an. 
However, there are services departing from South Shaanxi Road and arriving at Shi Tushuguan via Shanghai Hongqiao and Bei Kezhan. About 12 normal speed trains run from Shanghai to Xi'an as well; the duration is about 16 - 22 hours; and a hard sleeper ticket costs CNY 331.5.
