About PELS TC5

IEEE PELS is one of the fastest growing technical societies within IEEE. Our 13,000+ members, representing both academia and industry, span the globe and drive our success. Mission-focused, we strive to build knowledge and awareness of the latest technologies and other advances in power electronics, all to make the world a better place!

The IEEE PELS TC5 (Technical Committee on Sustainable Energy Systems), which is one of the specialized technical committees within the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), focuses on advancing power electronics for renewable energy, energy storage, and sustainable power systems. TC5 develops technologies for power converters, distributed energy resources, and grid integration, aiming to increase the efficiency of renewable energy systems.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Renewable Source Technologies: Power electronics for wind, solar, and other renewable sources.
  • Energy Storage Systems: Integration of storage technologies.
  • Sustainable Power Systems: Control and optimization of power electronic devices in energy grids.
  • Grid Integration: Ensuring stability with increased penetration of distributed generation.

Activities:

  • Sponsors technical workshops, panel sessions, and special sessions at conferences like IEEE ECCE.
  • Provides the IEEE PELS Sustainable Energy Systems Technical Achievement Award to recognize researchers and practitioners in the field.
  • Supports the creation of whitepapers and roadmap documents related to renewable energy and grid-forming converters.
